Swindon table bid for Rooney

It is being reported that Swindon Town have tabled a six-figure bid for Gillingham midfielder Luke Rooney.

BBC Wiltshire are reporting that the Wiltshire side have lodged the significant offer for the 21 year old who has failed to agree a new deal at Priestfield.

Swindon manager Paulo di Canio is known to be an admimer of Rooney and looks to have followed up that interest by lodging a bid with his Chairman Jeremy Wray confirming that they are targeting the midfielder:

“He’s stuck out for Gillingham this season and he’s somebody we are pursuing,” he told BBC Radio Wiltshire.

“For whatever reason he’s decided he’s come to the end of his time at Gillingham and obviously they’ve got to do best by them to make sure they get the best price,” added Wray.

Rooney is still expected to be on the bench for Gillingham on Saturday as they take on Stoke City in the Third Round of the FA Cup.

The midfielder has just served a two match suspension following his sending off at Crawley Town on Boxing Day.
